She claimed that she was defending their cat…

Earlier in June this year, Dallas Police had dealt with one of the strangest cases they have ever seen. A 47-year-old woman named Mary Harrison, had fatally shot her husband in defense of their family cat. On a Saturday morning, Mary confessed and stated that the  incident stemmed from her deceased husband’s repeated abuse of their family cat. The victim and Mary’s husband, Dexter Harrison, had allegedly been abusing their family cat physically that it caused it to run away from home.

Mary got worried about their cat and plastered flyers to locate their missing pet. The cat was eventually found by a neighbor and returned home. Unfortunately, Dexter soon resumed his physical abuse on the poor cat, which prompted Mary to shoot him in a desperate attempt to stop the abuse. This is not the first time that this has happened in Texas. In 2013, another woman also shot her husband for threatening to throw her cat over the fence.

Unfortunately, Dexter later died due to his injuries while on the way to the hospital. As a result, Mary was sent to the Dallas County Jail and charged with murder. Meanwhile, netizens online debated about this issue and had divided opinions. Many people, including a neighbor, accused Mary of overreacting as she prioritized the cat’s life over her husband’s. While some others, including advocates, have set up a Gofundme page to cover Mary’s legal expenses and defended Mary by stating that she acted valiantly on behalf of an animal in need.
