A lone duffel bag with a dog in it was found..
On New Year’s Eve at about 2 p.m in the afternoon, a woman named Melissa Chapman received a text message that a dog had been found in a duffel bag at a park in Staten Island, New York. The person who contacted Chapman stated that he heard barking from the dog and quickly proceeded to unzip the bag to help him. However, as the dog was already terrified, he jumped out of the duffel bag immediately after the bag was unzipped. The dog had not been found since. Chapman responded to the text message immediately and sought assistance from other local animal rescues to locate the dog.
An hour later, they managed to locate the dog. Due to his fear of humans, the dog snapped at the team and did not allow them to get close to him. Due to his fear of humans, the dog snapped at the team and did not allow them to get close to him.
To calm him down and gain his trust, the team spent the next hour trying to lure him with some food so they could bring him to safety. A volunteer with Fur Friends in Need named Doreen Murphy picked him up and wrapped him in blankets once the dog got close enough. Knowing that he was safe, the dog calmed down and thanked Murphy by licking her face. He was also given a name, “Thor”.
The team immediately took Thor to a vet after the successful rescue. Thor spent most of the journey napping on Murphy’s lap, obviously exhausted and finally feeling safe. After a medical examination, Thor was estimated to be between six to seven years old and was in decent health. His eyes and hind legs were the only problem but it can be treated with proper medical care.
Murphy soon agreed to be Thor’s foster mom while he recovers. Thor is currently doing well in his foster home and he even gets along with the other dogs too! Thor will be ready for adoption once he is given a clean bill of health.
Thor is a sweet and friendly dog who loves to cuddle, there is no doubt that he will have a forever home soon!
