Animal cruelty has to be treated as a very serious crime and as such it must be punishable by law. In the fight for the animal rights, we are the voice of the voiceless and we should never give up on protecting these vulnerable creatures.
The recent case in which a gruesome act was done to an animal made people furious because the barbaric man who set a cat on fire won’t be serving jail time.
After this cruel teen named Roberto Hernandez put the cat in a cage, he poured her with a combustible liquid and then lit matches he threw at her. In the video taken by the security cameras of his neighbor, Marlene Gonzalez, the teen could be seen casually looking at the burning cat who was screaming in pain. What he did next will make your stomach turn. He fed the cat’s body to his dogs.
Despite all this, the judge in the Miami-Dade jurisdiction believed this awful man should be spared jail time.
This incident took place back in 2016, but the video wasn’t released until March of this year. Gonzales said how the teen had fun watching the cat dying in agony.
“Animal abuse cases have been a long-standing priority of the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office,” the office released in a statement. “We will continue to pursue the prosecution of all animal abuse cases as far as the evidence and Florida Law will allow.”
Miami-Dade’s resident Isabel Zapata, who is an animal rescuer, says how animal abuse of this type isn’t that uncommon.
“The amount of abuse I have seen in the last 10 years I’ve been living in this neighborhood is, it just doesn’t impress me anymore,” she told the Miami-Herald. “At the end, nobody does anything. There’s a few rescues here trying to do what we can for the dogs, for the cats, for the animals but it’s not enough.”
According to Miami-Dade’s law, a cat’s life is only worth 100 hours of community service and 5 years of probation.
This is really sad as we believe the justice hasn’t been served and cases like these should be considered a way more serious crime.
