The story of Rambo, the warrior dog, will likely break your heart into a million pieces.

The way he was discovered was a fortunate stroke of serendipity. A real estate agent named Casey Lawrence was about to show a property that day but she ended up taking a wrong turn. Instead, she found herself at a place that resembled a dumping ground for dog fighters. She was disgusted by the sight of animal bones and carcasses. But then, she noticed a dog that was still alive.

She got out of her car and took the dog in. The very next thing she did was taking him to the Baxter Veterinary Clinic.

Unfortunately, his health condition was extremely bad, his body all covered in bite marks, severe injuries, and one of his back legs infected with gangrene. He would definitely die if Case didn’t stumble upon him just on time.

The doctors treated his injuries and monitored his condition which seemed to be improving slowly but steadily. Rambo started wagging his tail, and that was a good sign.

Unfortunately, his leg couldn’t be saved. They had to amputate it, after which he was moved to Charlotte Animal Referral & Emergency (CARE) for further treatment.

“Both hind limbs have suffered trauma likely due to ties around his ankles,” CARE wrote on Facebook. “He is a trooper and will wag his tail and give kisses despite the abuse he has endured.”

Rambo has all the support he needs. The organization Every Life Matters Animal Rescue where the realtor Casey is a board member is there for Rambo. They wrote the following update on YouCaring after Rambo’s first surgery: “He’s been very out of it today from the anesthesia but he knows you’re there, when you leave he puts his paw up for you to come back.”

As Rambo is gathering strength and is going through the process of recovery, his rescuers make sure the police investigates the dumping ground and tracks down the cruel people who use dogs for fighting and as baits. We hope they’ll end up behind bars and won’t harm another dog.
