19 year old Sophiane signed up for a task not many other kids her age would want to do. She was matched with an old dog whose face was covered in cancerous tumors. The match was made so that she could give him one last “good’ day.
Not only did she sign up to help with Hippo she founded her own nonprofit dog rescue when she was all of 14 years old.
Sophiane did not want Hippo to pass away without ever having the chance to experience true joy. She decided that she would take him out of the shelter once the suggested waiting period was over.
Hippo’s Best Last Day – A ReflectionWell, it’s happened. Something that I made has gone (kinda) viral. As someone…
Every dog should be able to experience happiness before they die whether that’s with their family or at a shelter. That’s why Sophiane decided to plan a “happy day” for her new pal Hippo. She was initially scared to bring him outside, when she saw his reaction when they first met up told her he needed this. The happy dog was wagging his tail and he was very excited to enjoy his special day with her.
They started their day with some Starbucks, Hippo had the Puppacino. Then it was off to the park to play with the other dogs, Hippo was able to make some new buddies. Hippo even decided to sneak a little drink from a nearby lake. Sophiane typically does not allow such behavior, yet she made an exception considering the circumstances.
After many hours of fun and laughter, Hippo was wearing down. Sophiane knew that the dog sensed that his time was almost up. They returned to her home and Hippo was given his very last meal roasted chicken. Hippo loved it he gobbled it down as fast as he could and settled in for his final sleep.
We are sharing Hippo’s story in hopes of inspiring other kind souls to do the same for senior dogs that never had pure happiness in their life. Please be sure to pass this story along to your closest friends and family members as soon as possible.
We pray that Hippo is resting peacefully and spending eternity running and playing at the Rainbow Bridge.
Hippo’s story has touched a lot of hearts, and hopefully changed some minds about old dogs. You might only have them for a couple years, a few months, a week, or a day, but they never truly leave you. Foster, fospice, or adopt a senior dog today. ❤️ #seniordog #olddog #bestlastday #sharpei #fospice #dogrescue #dogsofinstgram #shelterdog #rescuedog
