Dogs are very observant creatures. They can sense our mood, and many times, they know what our next move will be. And yes, they also know what our likes and dislikes are, including what our favorite food is.
Take 6-year-old Jakey for example. This Rottweiler noticed how her family eats too much bread and pastry, so whenever they leave the house, she finds that kind of food, mostly the bread, and hides it.
“Whenever we leave the house, Jakey deems it absolutely vital for her to protect any bread we have in the house,” Jakey’s mom, Katrina Frank said.
And once they are home again, all they need to do is ask where the bread is and this good girl takes them to where she hid it.
But what is most interesting of all is that Jakey doesn’t do it because she sees it as an opportunity to munch on it herself, as she never really takes a bite, but because she wants to keep it safe for her humans. “We have a bread box so she likes to hop up and pull it out of there. If I leave it in the pantry instead, she nudges the door open and gets it out. I’ve put it in the refrigerator before and she has opened the door to get to it,” Frank said speaking to the Dodo.
However, she doesn’t only hide the bread. If there’s no any, she moves on to guarding the baked goods. “If I’m out of bread, she moves on to baked goods,” Frank said. “Once she took a Tupperware of cookies off the counter and hid all 17 individually without breaking any. She led me to all of them.”
The rest of the furry animals in the house won’t say no to eating some, but Jakey doesn’t let them near her family’s food.
Frank knows that her dog doing this is a way of expressing her love towards them. If they eat it so often, then it has to be important to them.
She posts updates on Jakey and people love it. Just recently, she wrote, “Jakey the Bread Protector strikes again, without fail. Tonight she had to bring the bread all the way to the top of the stairs. Not sure what crazy business went on while we were gone, but clearly someone on the main level of the house must have been posing a threat to our carbs.”
Doesn’t this make you love dogs even more?
