The pup was merely 3 years’ old!
One afternoon, a local animal rescue organization named Detroit Dog Rescue (DDR) received a distressed call from the local animal control department. It was concerning a 3-year-old dog, who had been found with a carabiner hook at the back of its neck! To make matters worse, the hook had a tow chain which weighed 15 pounds attached to it!
The executive director of Detroit Dog Rescue, Kristina Rinaldi, likens the matter to “something you see out of a horror movie”. Currently, the organization does not have all the details to piece the scenario together – how it happen, and where did the dog come from? The case at hand currently remains as an open investigation, and local authorities welcome any leads to resolve this matter.
A 3-hour long surgical procedure was necessary in order to produce a successful result in removing the hook from the dog, who had been since named Courage by DDR staff. He can now run and play like other dogs, but still needs to finish his treatment for heartworms. To do so, Courage requires a loving foster home to stay. On the other hand, Bissell Pet Foundation provided assistance in raising money to pay for Courage’s medical bills, and their campaign has garnered over $6,000 so far.
The remaining problem is that Courage still requires a home while he regains his health. Anyone interested in fostering Courage while he heals, please visit and fill out an application at: https://detroitdogrescue.com/.
