It’s sad how we hear of stories about animals whose life is rough and miserable all because of their cruel owners. Animal neglect is something that we all condemn, and we strongly believe it should be punishable by law to treat any animal with disrespect.
Unfortunately, many cases of animal abuse are never exposed to the public and pets suffer without being offered a chance for a better life. Luckily, that’s not the faith of the tormented dog Melissa Janelle Torrezis came across. The horrific scene she witnessed is something that will hunt her for a very long time. However, this brave woman knew she had to put an end to the dog’s suffering and bring the owner to justice.
A savage man was driving a scooter and dragging his dog on the asphalt as it was tied to the vehicle with a leash.
She immediately took her phone out and started filming the gruesome act, making sure she has an evidence against the barbaric man.
“Don’t worry I’ll call the cops on you,” Melissa yells in the video. It doesn’t take long before the man replies back with expletives and “Call ‘em! It’s my dog!”
After Melissa taped the footage, she immediately filed a complaint. It was taken very seriously and police in Mission, Texas arrested the man only fifteen hours later. The 59-year-old man was identified as Mario Cardona and then arrested by the authorities. He was rightfully charged with animal cruelty.
Police lieutenant Jody Tittle applauded Melissa’s decision to tape the abuse. “You know something like this is great because somebody actually provided us with video evidence,” he said. “Sometimes animal cruelty is hard to prove, you know, as bad as that may sound.”
The dog, a German Shepherd mix named G2 didn’t suffer any severe injuries and authorities made sure he was taken away from his owner. He was placed at a shelter, out of the rich of the mad man, and provided with a proper medical care.
Facebook page Animal Protection R.G.V. provided details about his arrest and first court hearing.
“The DA’s office has charged him with two class A misdemeanor charges related to failing to provide care and recklessly transporting or confining the animal by dragging the defenseless dog from his motorized scooter/wheelchair. Mr. Cardona may face one year in jail and a fine up to $4,000.00 if convicted.
