Living in a neighborhood of friendly people can make our life a lot easier. Knowing how many neighbors argue with one another for small things makes me happy to be surrounded by understanding people who mind their own business yet they are always happy to assist when anyone is in need of help.
Johnny Mathis from Houston, Texas, is the kind of neighbor everyone wants to live nearby. Recently, he shared with his Twitter followers what he did for one of the neighbor’s dogs and his story went viral very quickly, making him a hero.
As he was walking towards the building’s elevator, he noticed his neighbor entering in, but her little Pomeranian didn’t get inside before the door closed.
Mathis knew the dog would choke if he didn’t act quickly, so he ran towards the little guy and managed to get the collar out of the animal’s neck.
“Y’all I’m shaking!!! I just saved a dog on a leash that didn’t make it onto the elevator with the owner before the door closed! I just happened to turn around as the door closed and it started to lift off the ground I got the leash off in time,” Mathis tweeted.

The owner couldn’t stop screaming. She was afraid her dog died, not being aware Mathis was around and noticed what had happened. “She started screaming as soon as the door shut and was bawling her eyes out when it came back down,” Mathis wrote.
Mathis’ incredible story has been backed up with a video from the building’s security camera. He saved a life that day and the dog’s owner couldn’t thank him enough. He became an Internet sensation and a true hero.
But he says he only did what everyone would do, and adds that “instincts just kicked in.”
