The flood waters that covered Baton Rouge have brought out the best in some people. We are hearing more and more amazing stories about how people are coming together and helping each other. One of those people who is risking his life to help others is Josh Pettit.
Navigating the rising water is all about timing and knowing when to leave your home behind to save yourself and your loved ones. One man lost his dog, Sadie, when he was trying to make that escape. She panicked and was lost in the water.
Josh and some other people were out on a boat looking at some of the damage that the water has caused. Josh saw and heard something that made him stop dead in his tracks.
He saw just the face of a dog – the rest of the dog was under water – she was hanging on for dear life. Josh wrote on Facebook that he saw a bush shake and looked over to see the dog’s eyes and nose just above the water.
Her eyes were so sad, and she was very scared. The dog, Josh later found out is named Sadie, was so exhausted that she wouldn’t be able to tread in the 8 feet of water for much longer. When they finally got the dog on the boat, Sadie came over to Josh and put her head on his lap.
He wrote that she cried and moaned – her way of saying thank you! Josh and other people he was with then went on to help a veterinarian, and his animals get to dry land. The vet took Sadie with him.
The update on Sadie is that she has been reunited with her owners. Sadie had run off from her owner when she got scared during the evacuation. Sadie is now a happy – and dry girl!
