That huge pharmaceutical companies use animals to test their products isn’t something we are not aware of. The amount of torture the animals go through is extreme and the pain they suffer is excruciating.
Recently, a video footage from a German testing lab leaked and left the whole world horrified and disguised.
Cats, dogs, but mostly monkeys, are shown wearing metal bars around their necks. After they serve their purpose, the animals are left to die.
The disturbing video was taken by an animal rights activist who worked together with the Soko Tierschutz and Cruelty Free International (CFI). This person’s name hasn’t been released for their safety. They managed to film what was going on inside the “Laboratory of Phramacology and Toxicology” in Hamburg, Germany, after they got employed with the company. It was all part of the plan of revealing the truth behind the pharmaceutical business worth billions and billions of dollars.
Speaking to The Mirror, Friedrich Mülln from Soko Tierschutz said, “The animals were even still waggling their tails when they were being taken to be killed, the dogs were desperate for human contact.”
“The worst treatment was kept for the monkeys. The macaques breed of monkeys are small, relatively light primates, which are often used for animal experiments at LPT. They are kept in cramped conditions in small cages. Many of the animals have developed compulsive tendencies and are seen going round in circles,” he added.
The infiltrated person said how what is seen on the video is not the whole truth, as what is further going on inside this place is much worse.
Besides being tested for various chemicals that often result in weight loss, organ failure, vomiting, and even death, the workers are very violent and abusive towards the animals.
Much of the animal testing facilities and labs treat animals in the same manner as shown in this video, and that’s a huge problem, Michelle Thew, CFI chief executive said.
“Our investigation has uncovered appalling animal suffering, inadequate care, poor practices and breaches of European and German law. We are calling for LPT to be closed. We are also calling for a comprehensive review into the use of animals in regulatory toxicity testing in Europe, including the UK. Every investigation, without fail, shows a similar tale of misery and disregard of the law,” Thew added.
After the video has been exposed, many people raised their voice against the pharmaceutical companies. One of them, Carolin Iding, has launched a petition asking for this particular lab to be shut down and has gained over 193,000 signatures from people from all over the world.
