It was the right thing to do.
One dog grooming business in Florida has opened its doors in order to offer its services, free of charge and purely out of goodwill – to an abandoned dog who’s in a severe need of more than just a simple fur clipping.
The business was owned by a kind woman named Kari Falla, who owned BGE Grooming. After chancing upon a Facebook page specifically created to help lost and stray dogs, she knew that there is one in particular who had needed urgent help in the grooming department.
One look at the pictures and Falla knew that the canine was in a horrid condition, thus she reached out to the woman who had written the social media post. She had requested the woman to drop the dog off at her shop.
Just an hour later after their communication, Falla tried her hand at emergency grooming for the poor canine.
“They said they found it on the side of the road, and it almost got hit by a car. They couldn’t keep it for the night – the woman was looking for someone who could.”
“They arrived at my shop at midnight, and it took three hours to groom him. A normal grooming only takes an hour and a half. When a dog is matted that badly, it can cause its blood flow to stop, as well as bruising to the dog. I could tell he’d been that way for a few years from the pictures – you could tell it was extreme neglect. I knew it was bad, but nothing prepared me for what I saw. It smelled like death and the dog could not walk. They had to carry it,” Falla recounts.
The dog’s fur had been found to be so severely matted, that it could not even relieve itself. Plus, its coat was also badly infested with fleas.
Falla soon got to work on the 4-year-old dog’s fur coat, shaving all the dead hairs away and then giving him a medicated bath to get rid of the pests feasting off him. Falla also found out that the poor dog was unfortunately, both deaf and blind. The whole grooming process and the dog’s state of health was the worst case she had ever seen and dealt with.
The dog in question has since been named “Lucky”, and was quickly ferried to a nearby animal clinic to be neutered the very next day. Lucky has since been placed in a foster home and is reported to be recovering well. Meanwhile, local authorities are still searching for Lucky’s former owner.
