This is one of the saddest stories we have stumbled upon recently and no matter how much our hearts are broken, we share it so that everyone learns how special dogs really are.
17-year-old Caitlin Waynne posted a photo of her beloved dog Harry sleeping in the corner of the room next to an empty dog bed. Looking at him some may say dogs can be stubborn at times and do just what they please, but it isn’t the case here.
Sadly, the bed belonged to Harry’s best friend George, and although George left this world a year ago, Harry still doesn’t want to sleep in his bed but next to it, like they used to.
Harry and George were best of friends. They would spend all of their days by each other’s side and were never apart. Unfortunately, George was diagnosed with kidney failure and nothing could be done for him so the family decided to have him put down.
Although Harry always had his own bed, he always chose to sleep on the floor so that he could be by his pal’s side, and now George was gone, Harry still won’t let of the place where he once felt safe and loved.
“I’m full on crying rn…he always let george sleep there and he died almost a year ago and he still lies there,” Wyanne wrote on Twitter.
Harry is aware that the empty bed doesn’t belong to him and he refuses to lay on it out of respect for his buddy. Now isn’t that the most touching thing you’ve ever heard?
The family knew that Harry would be confused and wouldn’t stop wondering where George was, so they decided to take him with them when George was put down.
At least these loving friends were together when one of them said the final goodbye.
“We took Harry to the vets with us when George was put to sleep and stayed next to him the whole time,” wrote Wyanne.
“Almost a year on and he clearly still misses George! He sleeps on the floor to the side of the bed now quite often but I didn’t realise why until I was looking through photos of them both from a year ago and saw the photo I tweeted which made me realise.”
No matter how much time has passed since Harry lost his friend, it’s obvious he’s still grieving and misses George to the moon and back.
Many pet owners who found themselves in a similar situation felt for Caitlin and her dog.

Some even felt like sharing their own stories with the world.
This is so sweet! I lost one of my labradors 4 month back and my two others still leave room for her where she used to lay on the sofa and on their beds. Dogs are so precious 😩🐶

This is touching beyond words and remind us of the loyalty dogs have for those they love. We hope Harry will eventually overcome the sadness that filled his heart a year ago.
