Our dogs are our family and losing them leaves big holes in the owners’ hearts. The pain is even greater when the dog was the best friend of the family’s children who have a hard time understanding why their furry pal is not around them any longer.
The Lang family from Pocahontas, Arkansas, had a dog whom they all loved so very much. Max brought joy from the moment they took him in and the boys loved every moment they spent by his side. Sadly, someone cruel took Max from them by killing him with a pellet gun.
Randy Land discovered Max’s body in the yard while he was mowing the lawn. The poor dog was laying on the ground and blood was coming from his nose and his head.
Randy couldn’t believe his eyes. At first, he believed Max was hurt by a rock that somehow flew out from the lawnmower and hit his head, not assuming the poor canine had been shot and killed.
They took Max to the Westridge Animal Clinic, but he didn’t make it. There, vets told the family how Max wasn’t hit by a rock but died from a pellet that was lodged in his head. He was shot eight times.
“Please watch your pets in this area…actually please watch your pets no matter where you live,” Northeast Arkansas Humane Society posted a warning on Facebook. “There are some very cruel people in this world. A beautiful dog is gone & a family that includes small children is heartbroken. Run free over the Rainbow Bridge Max.”
“Max was such a sweet loving dog,” Audra Land wrote on Facebook. “He was more than a dog he was a part of our family. The boys have Been so heartbroken. We hope to find the person or persons who killed our sweet Max.”
Police are trying to identify the killer and are asking the public to come forward with any information that could help solve the case by contacting their department at 870-892-9867.
